This shirt is just funny! I can so see a shirt like this at a PETA animal rights event.
For those who are anti-meat eating, this shirt definitely has a light-hearted way of embodying a vegetarian/vegan principle. This shirt was found in a market in Bangkok, Thailand. Now I would wear this shirt as a personal statement BUT if you are an actual company, giving out promotional t-shirts with your message or motto at your next event, you may want to be careful not to use another brand’s likeness or logo on your merchandise. You run the risk of legal ramifications!
Message t-shirts are popular promotional items because a clever, well thought out message can be catchy, which can associate your company with being memorable/likeable, thus such a positive reaction builds powerful recall and brand equity.
Quick Questions to Ask Yourself—My Rules for a Message T-shirt:
1) Is this message tasteful? Have I thought of consequences or possible reactions from this message for my brand? Bad public perception may work for celebrities you’re your brand’s existence relies on customer satisfaction and trust. You don’t want to be too offensive to your audience. You could lose some of your market if you are considered too distasteful to your target. Then you have to go into reputation disaster recovery mode and clean-up is no fun!
2) Would you wear this promo t-shirt? If you wouldn’t wear it then why would I wear it? Unless I am some sort of rebel!
3) Is this message aligned with the overall principles of my company? If the message on the shirt has nothing to do with your brand’s ideals then you run the risk of brand inconsistency, which can confuse your target.
Promotional t-shirts with a clever or strong message definitely initiate conversation.
