Today’s News on Tomorrow’s T-shirt
By Mark | October 30, 2008
Do you often save newspaper articles with memorable or important headlines? Have you ever saved a headline on a t-shirt? This year, CNN introduced a website feature in which online users, in lieu of clipping an article or bookmarking the page, can purchase a promotional t-shirt displaying their favorite headline with the accompanying tagline “I found this on CNN.com.”
Not all headlines are available as t-shirts. Those involving violence, death and other sensitive topics are excluded from the campaign, while almost every bizarre, humorous and special-interest headline is available in t-shirt form.
With election day closing in, the most popular t-shirts as of late tend to be campaign-oriented, allowing people to remember this historic presidential race. CNN claims the t-shirts were introduced as a means of promoting their online video and article features and encouraging CNN viewers to make more frequent visits to the website.
I haven’t yet seen anyone wearing one of these t-shirts, but glancing through the available headlines at the online CNN store, I’m impressed with the quality and originality of this promotion. Not only do these t-shirts allow site users to feel like they’re interacting with the brand, but fans of the shirts might be encouraged to amass a collection of all their favorite headlines! My personal favorite is “Fire Truck Becomes Rolling Pizza Shop.” It just makes you want to log onto to CNN.com and check it out, right?
